9-11 Monument

Today at Adonis we remember those Utahan’s who lost their lives at the World Trade Towers in New York City on September 11, 2001. We were privileged to work on the monument.

— A 9/11 memorial was dedicated at 6:30 this morning at the Utah State University Botanical Center in Kaysville, capping a 12-year fundraising effort by youth volunteers and their adult organizers.

The statue, sculpted by Angela Johnson, was revealed at the sunrise service. Lt. Gov. Greg Bell and Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah spoke at the event at the USU Botanical Center, 920 S. 50 W., Kaysville. The memorial is west of the center’s pavilion near the ponds.

Here we have yet another great piece going through Adonis Bronze by Jim Rennert.  If you want to see more of Jim’s works go to his web site at www.jimrennert.com  What Jim is doing next with this enlarged and milled foam sculpture is adding a layer of clay to the surface. Adonis will then mold and cast the piece in bronze. You can always see more of the process by visiting the how to section of our web site.

The Artist

One of the fun things we do here at Adonis Bronze Fine Art Foundry is cast and finish the creative work for hundreds of great artists. Ed Halavka a Adonis VIP comes up with such innovative things that we are just blown away. Here we see the artist painting on a canvas. Each piece is truly one of a kind because no two paintings are alike. This painting was done solely by chemicals and heat called the patina. It takes truly a masterful patina artist to complete this absolutely magnificent work as well as being a masterful sculptor.

Portraiture and Technology

Scanning a Face

Scanning a Face

It’s like mixing photography and fine art. On one hand the pure artist doesn’t like to admit that he even uses photography to obtain a likeness with the subject and the other hand he uses whatever means he can to make his job easier and better. Portrait Artists have the almost unbelievably difficult task of capturing a likeness but then creating the mood or emotion and personality of the subject. Many fly to the subject or the subject comes to them and they take careful measurements of the head, neck, eyes, ears, mouth and nose. Often photos are taken from every conceivable angle which the artist works from when the subject isn’t present. Adonis can help with some of this for you. We can scan the subjects head and torso if necessary and capture the exact measurements for you. We can then enlarge or reduce the image and create a foam base or model from which the artist can work. A clay covering gives you the surface to work on expression, mood or feeling.  The measurements are way more accurate than a tape measure and calipers. Talk to us about how we might help. They say time is money and we can help save you both.

Adonis Bronze was able to assist Boston artist Bob Shure of Skylight Studios with the 3d scanning and enlarging of his monument “Woman with Lantern” which will be going somewhere in Alabama. Bob’s piece turned out  perfectly and after Bob completes the clay and mold work he will ship the mold back to Utah for the casting. When completed Adonis will ship the monument to the location for installation. Thanks Bob for letting us participate with this beautiful work.

Note to artists: When enlarging it is always a good idea to sculpt the original model in a large enough size for proper and accurate enlarging. A 1 ft model that will be enlarged 10 times needs to be more accurate than a 1 ft model that is enlarged 2 times. Imperfections are amplified the in the same proportion as the enlargement size.

Ron is a professor with more than 35 years of college teaching experience including: visual lecturer, visiting critic and demonstrator at schools and institutions at graduate and undergraduate levels, as well as the private sector throughout the United States. Ron is represented in more than 600 corporate, public, civic, museum, university and private collections worldwide. Adonis most recent project for Ron was the majestic horse for the Trojans at USC of “Traveller,” the schools mascot. Jim Rennert “New Generations” Monument

Posted by on Apr 8, 2013 in Blog | Comments Off on Jim Rennert “New Generations” Monument

This month we cast a piece for artist Jim Rennert.  Jim was born in 1958, and grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Salt Lake City, Utah. After 10 years of working in business Jim started sculpting in 1990. He had his first bronze sculptures cast by a foundry in Lehi, Utah in 1992. Jim began exhibiting his work in commercial galleries in 1993. Jim has been working closely with Adonis Bronze in latter years. This piece was commissioned by a large insurance company and will be going to their corporate headquarters in Minnesota. Adonis laser scanned the artist’s  small model figures which we milled and enlarged for the monument. We then welded large plates of steel to form the structure on which the sculptures stand. The piece is very impressive. Jim has a long list of monumental art works that may be found around the country.
